Manhattan, NY 23 year old Nick Delpopolo competed for Team USA for the second consecutive year at the 2012 New York Open Team Tournament which was organized and held by his sponsors, the New York Athletic Club (NYAC). The New York Open is a round robin format featuring teams from the USA, France, Germany and Canada. Nick was outfitted in a special Team Judo gi designed by Justin Flores and made by Mizuno. The tournament featured DJ Mark LaRush spinning beats during the matches, food and drink, live colour commentary, chanting crowds and TV News Stations covering the action. Team USA was coached by Nick’s personal coach and NYAC Hall of Famer, Jason Morris.

Although the American’s fell just short of winning the gold medal and had to settle for silver for the second straight year at the hands of Team Germany, the quality of all the teams was very high and Nick was notably the only American man not to lose a match. Even more impressively only Nick and Akinori Hongo (Team Canada) went 3-0 out of all the players from all the Teams combined. Delpopolo defeated Etienne Briand (Team Canada), Morancy Yao (Team France) and Fabian Seidlmeier (Team Germany) with a gorgeous tomoe-nage for ippon in the finals.

During the event Nick was photographed by Sports Illustrated photographers and interviewed by NY1 News a New York News Station.
